Why the Rose?

The rose is the most popular flower in the history of man, it's beauty is incomparable to any other flower. It is thought to have existed according to fossil history for some 35 million years. No matter how old it really is, it surely has been here since the beginning of time. It is likely that this flower will continue to flourish until the end of time on this earth.

There are over 30,000 varieties of roses and it has the most complicated family tree of any known flower species.

I have began and tended rose gardens myself and have seen that they flourish with attention, it's necessary for them to become all that you want them to be. They must be watered every day, fed every week and fertilized every month until the cold. Rose bushes then hibernate and survive the winter unlike other flowers, more like animals. They are amazing 'creatures' as my mind sees them. They truly need love and attention like a person does.

They are soft and sweet to smell a pleasure to the senses. And yet they have thorns. They can be very defensive to protect their selves and creatures that use the rose thorns for protection from still other creatures. They have a purpose and without those harsh thorns, they may not have survived since the beginning of time.

Why the rose, why did God refer to Himself as the "Rose of Sharon" ? Song of Solomon 2:1I am the rose of Sharon, and the lily of the valleys.

I happen to love roses, I feel 'peace' when I am with them, they glorify the earth, and I love being a caregiver and seeing the pleasure they receive from me tending them, how they respond to my love and protection.

When I get to heaven I am going to ask God, why the rose? But I think it is because of what I feel looking at them- peace, glory, love and yet a defender of all that come to Him. The sweetness of the flower and the prick of the thorn.
