Acts of Kindness

Recently, about 4 weeks ago my neighbor M woke up laying beside his wife and she didn't awaken. She was deceased.

It has been very difficult for him as anyone, he is alone now and somewhere in his 50's.

For the funeral the grown children were here from a distant area to say good-bye. I spoke with them of course and offered myself if there was any way I could help. They said "thank you but just look out for him, check on him, we live far away" I said of course.

I have been speaking to him daily, inviting him to dinner with my family and casual things like that. It never crossed my mind to just jump over and assist him until I saw my other neighbor. I was ashamed of myself.

I looked outside after hearing a loud buzzing kind of noise and it was my 85 yo neighbor mowing (with a weed eater) M's yard. He walks ever so slowly, is a bit hunched over and lives alone. He just got out there and jumped on it.

I thought oh my goodness, why didn't I think to do that before this sweet old man did, in the heat of the day. I have a 14 yo boy here who I could have sent over to do that. If I had just 'thought'.

I am so proud of my neighbor for being that considerate and amazed at him at his age to attempt that. M was so grateful when he arrived home and just shocked at people who care.

What a sweet man and what a 'good neighbor' act of kindness. What a Godly thing to do.

2 Peter 1:
2Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
3According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
4Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
5And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
6And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
7And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
8For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

  1. How loving.

    I learned many years ago that it never helps to say, "If there's anything I can do just let me know."

    People won't let you know.

    It's so much more loving, so much more effective, to just see what needs to be done and, as you said, just jump in there and do it.

    Boy, we ALL have a lot to learn about loving well. Me included.
