He who is Happy

Psalm 146:5Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God:
Proverbs 3:13Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.
Proverbs 14:21He that despiseth his neighbour sinneth: but he that hath mercy on the poor, happy is he.
Proverbs 29:18Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

I was thinking and praying last night about what the Lord wanted me to write here. I was thinking about all the people who don't find happiness and joy during the Holiday Season, about how many commit suicide, stay drunk or abuse others because the season is so stressful for them.

I did a word search in http://www.biblegateway.com/keyword/ a site my sister J introduced me to. A place to research the Bible by a scripture, a topic or by keyword. I put in the simple word "happy". There were quite a few scripture and surprisingly to me they were very simply stated.

I have copied some above to share them with you and this is what I hear: He who's hope is in the Lord, who is searching for wisdom and understanding, one having mercy on the poor and one keeping the law, God's law. That man finds happiness.

I want that to be me, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It's pretty big expectation and while I know I alone am not capable I also know that with Christ in me I am capable we all are.

I certainly want to find happiness every day and knowing that sometimes I have to put forth effort and actually look for, I know that is something I need to do more of. It's much easier to fall short, then just lay there whining about it. Lord don't forget to give me that thump every now and again to remind me that You are right there beside me, picking me up, carrying me when needed. Remind me to just lean on You and let go, You are going to catch me when I fall. You are because You want happiness for me even more than I do. That was part of Your design for all of mankind from the very beginning, happiness.

"Father, please be with all of those this holiday who need to find You, to find their salvation and happiness. Show them somehow through someone the way to You. This is the celebration of the birth of our Lord and Saviour - the most joyous of all days. Be with those who can't find it Father, make them listen to You and hear You. You have given us the very reason for happiness, and some don't see it yet, guide us to them and use us, be in us this Christmas and show us how to share You to the very people who need You. Bring them to us or take us to them, make it happen Lord, get me ready and put me out there to help someone. Amen"

  1. I spent the first 1/2 or so of my adulthood searching for "happiness." Then I read (I can't remember where) something and it found a nesting place in my heart.

Happiness is NOT our goal in life. Happiness is NOT God's goal for us.
Purpose is God's goal for us in this life-living in and for His purpose for us.

Happiness is a by-product. As I'm moving and growing and serving God's purpose for me, I just happen upon happiness. I don't need to waste my energies searching for it. It finds me as I live for Christ and for others.

    Love you,
    Jean
