The Book of Luke

I have been reading in the book of Luke . It's wonderful accounts of Christ's charity, compassion and teaching makes it a book I want to know well.

Though just beginning I am extremely joyous to be reading it and finding all the accounts of people who were not the wealthy, the socially acceptable or the well educated - people like most of us, that Christ cared so much for.

I noticed that the first 'red letter' writing was Luke 2:49, when Mary and Joseph were searching for their child who was in the temple of God. They stated that they were worried Luke 2:48

48And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.
49And he said unto them,
How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?

The next verse states that they didn't understand what he meant.
50And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them.

That surpised me, they certainly knew how This child was concieved and why. And then I thought what a great love they had for Him "their child". They must have been raising Him as their true child like any loving parents. They must have seen Him as a perfectly normal boy running and playing in the streets with other children. God the Father gave Him the power to have the fullest love possible but they must have been chosen because they were capable of teaching him compassion and charity as He grew into a man.

Those teachings from His loving earthly parents were His experiences to develope and cultivate into what God had planned for His Mighty Son.

Yes Luke tells about the charity, compassion and teachings Christ left with us and shows what earthly parents are capable of, the love we can share with our children. The compassion that can can be cultivated in them and the teachings we are each responsible for passing to "our" children.

  1. I've never thought of that verse that way before. That's very insightful-that they loved little Jesus so dearly, so perfectly, that they could "forget" that He wasn't theirs at all-He was God bent down and lent to them for a short time.

That's what many parents do with our own "natural" children. We forget that they are just lent to us for a while.
