I Really Hate the Cold

Brrr! It's 6:30am this morning and at present is 27 degrees, yes 27 in my beautiful, warm, sunny Florida. How did this happen? Oh yeees, it happens every year about this time - it's called winter, Arrrrgh!

I know one thing , every year older the winters feel colder. My bones and muscles ache with the cold, they hate it. When I get cold I can't get warmed again it seems. I live through the winter in a heavy, flannel, blue, raggedy old robe that no matter how cold it is, makes me feel warm and toasty.

I started thinking this morning about what warms my heart and what about those people who don't seem to ever have a warm heart, like my new neighbors - Lord I know they have to live somewhere but I sure wish it was somewhere else. Just yesterday they were in the street drunk, screaming every foul word you can name. The kids crying and begging daddy not to call the police to mommy "don't put mommy in jail". The kids are mean and cruel to the other kids here and I don't wonder why.

Maybe you moved them here on purpose, maybe I need to learn something about me (obviously I do) and maybe if I change my prayer Lord and ask, You will be able to use me to influence these people. Maybe Lord if I listen really hard I may get all warm and toasty in my heart for them.

Proverbs 4:23 (King James Version) says: Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. I believe that means I am responsible for taking charge of what my heart feels, for keeping on track and asking God's guidance for my heart, for staying in touch with it, being responsible for where my heart leads me, by giving my heart to God and letting Him lead, that's what I think.

I have never liked the winter going on around me and now I recognize when it's going on inside me too. You gave me that "weather detector" Lord and finally I listened to it, finally I opened up and discovered that I can listen to my heart and hear You.

Thank You Father now push me right along to doing what You would have me to do so my heart can be wrapped in Your warm robe always. I want to listen and "go" as You commanded us before You ascended! I pray You can use my heart Jesus, I pray You will put someone in place here to bring your message to my neighbors and remind me to pray earnestly for them instead of complaining. I love feeling all warm and toasty, help me to get warm Lord.

Matthew 28:18-20 (King James Version)
King James Version (KJV)

18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

When Christ said Go He meant every Christian and He meant in everything we do share Him with others. Not just when you are in church socializing and studying, but when you're on your job, in your car traveling, dealing with a nasty neighbor or any place you are, even in a restaurant eating.

Every one we meet and are seen by is potentially someone we need to spread His word to. To Go is to share Him and salvation everywhere we are, and often that is by deed rather than words. I better really get to work on this one! I am glad I am working on a "Thank You" list and not a "where I fall short list" there may not be enough space here.

In Last Sunday's sermon the pastor said: Witnessing is simply "someone who knows about Jesus telling someone who doesn't know about Jesus". that's all! Don't over think it, or dramatize it or read anything else into, it's simply that. No college degree is required nor a certificate of special training, just a willingness to say His name.

Please pray for me and all my shortcomings and that I would be warm and toasty in my heart today. God bless you each with all the warmth that your heart needs this winter season, stay cuddled up to God it's warm and toasty here!

  1. "Lord, make my heart soft." That's one of the first Scripture verses our boys learned as little ones. I need to be praying that every day myself, I think. I, too, have a set of neighbors that don't make me feel warm & fuzzy inside. Lord, warm me up to them. Let me see You each time I look at them.

Thank you, Miawa, for this poignant reminder.
