Self Gratification

I met my sister in Hardeeville, SC on Saturday, our mom will be staying with her a while.  I'm praying they really enjoy the visit and the sharing. This is a picture of little flowers we found in the area.

Hardeeville is just 5 miles into SC from Georgia so we didn't really see anything of the state.  My grandson was with me and commented "hm! it looks just like Florida so far, I don't even know I'm in another state", he said the same thing about Georgia.
I giggled and asked him what he expected?  "I don't know, I wanted to feel like, I had ventured somewhere, I thought everything would be different, I didn't even get to see a mountain, huh!"   Well, I said, just more pines and grass and vines, like Florida, sorry buddy!

I guess sometimes we expect the same "shock 'n awe" in our spiritual life when we take new steps and grow in new directions.

But, all day - every day should be designated as His and we should never expect any personal satisfaction, knowing that self gratification is a self centered need. We enjoy attention it's in our nature,  so controlling that need can require a bit of attention from all of us.

Proverbs 9:22-23
Thus said the Lord:
Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom;
Let not the strong man glory in his strength;
Let not the rich man glory in his riches,
But only in this should one glory:
In his earnest devotion to Me.
For I the Lord act with kindness,
Justice, and equity in the world;
For in these I delight  -  declares the Lord.

In the Tanakh (Old Testament), the book of Proverbs is the 2nd of the three "Wisdom" writings (Psalms, Proverbs , Job) of the Kethuvim "Writings", (Psalms through Chronicles).

The Old Testament was written in Hebrew excluding, Daniel 2:4 - 7:28, Ezra 4:8 - 6:18 and 7:12-26, also Jeremiah 10:11 which were written in Chaldee (of or pertaining to Chaldea), Aramaic.

Have a great week, let God bless you. I plan on doing just that!

  7. Miawa,

    Yes, expecting "attention" and "greater things" just so we can receive the glory is always a dangerous thing. The painful lesson for us as Christians to remember is that glory always goes to God. It's a lesson, I feel, which we must struggle to learn each day.

    At any rate, thank you for visiting my blog yesterday and leaving a nice comment. It was good to "see" you there. You are welcomed to visit any time. :)

    Blessings,

    -L. Rose
